Decade in Review
Monday, January 11th, 2010 by Reel Marla
I tell you this past decade had A LOT of just crazy things that happened –some wonderful and some just down right dreadful. I thought I’d just throw a bunch of random things I distinctly remember about this last decade. There’s no particular order to what I thought of, but read on and reminisce yourself. I could have blogged on for 3 days about everything that happened.
Reality TV BLEW up this past decade. Heck, why should networks pay a fortune for talented and known actors when they can just pay some pennies to every day peeps with no real script. Dance has become so big with shows like Dancing with the Stars (ABC), So You Think You Can Dance (FOX), and Randy Jackon’s America’s Next Best Dance Crew (FOX).
American Idol (FOX) Introduced us to several new singers and help explode their careers. AI brought us Kelly Clarkson, Chris Daughtry, Clay Aikan, Carrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks, Adam Lambert and many more. But one I will never forget is Academy Award Winner…Jennifer Hudson. That’s my girl. She’s phenomenal. And then again Adam Lambert’s live performance on the American Music Awards. As Prince would sing it — SCANNNNNDALOUS.
Ryan Seacrest becomes the new face for Dick Clark’s Rockin Eve. Shoot, Ryan Seacrest had a GREAT decade with all the stuff he’s accomplished and got to do. American Idol I swear helped him immensely. He signed on to be a co-host on American idol in 2002 with … shoot.. um…who was that other host? Oh yeah, Brian Dunkleman. I don’t miss him at all. Does anyone remember him?
And my show 24 with Keiffer Sutherland began in November of 2001. This is my show. I haven’t missed an episode. This January 2010 will begin Jack Bauer’s 8th worst day of his life. This time the thrill and espionage will be happening in New York City. WOO HOO! I can’t wait.
Then my heart was pounding watching a big homemade balloon on the news that we all believed the Heene boy was in. And it turned out to be a dag on hoax. And why did the family do it? So they could be big reality TV stars. Jack asses.
And what’s up with Oprah announcing she’ll be ending her show after its 25th season in September 2011.
Shoot let’s not forget the near pandemics of SARS and Swine Flu. Thank you Jesus for me escaping them. UGH. Let me just take a moment of silence for the 9/11 victims. Please bow your heads. So so sad.
Then… two wars, the economic collapse and the bailouts that bailed everyone out, but the PEOPLE all transpired. And former Vice President Al Gore was a guest on Saturday Night Live. Now I would have never guessed that one was coming. As Deondre Cole would say “Ooouuweeee, what up with that? “
The Steelers won the Super bowl twice. GO STEELERS! Well, GO STEELERS for next season.
The scandals this past decade were salacious something fierce. Where do I even begin? Maybe I’ll start with John Edwards. How is this man going to run for the President of the United States KNOWING he might have a love child and cheated on his terminally ill wife? That’s just shameful. We’ve got Eliot Spitzer, the hypocrite that he is. And I’ll just end it with the most SCANDALOUS story and person of all…Tiger Tiger Woods Yall!
A gazillion actors had a set of twins – something in the Hollywood water. Disney created their first Black Princess. That sure did take forever. Black Eyed Peas got it started in the new Millennium. Taylor Swift broke records and told Kanye West, “How ya like me now?” And Danger…she smashed the homies. Snookie got punched in her face by a male teacher. The Situation didn’t do anything about it. Mike Boogie won a ton of cash on Big Brother and Victor Newman has Colleen Carlton’s heart. Oh, and Danger…. She smashed the homies. Shoot, Britney spears — pop princess — made tons of loot, had a lot of hit songs, did a stupid movie, got married twice, had two kids and still ain’t 30-years-old.
The shocker of all shockers – On March 5, 2006, Three 6 Mafia became the first black music group to ever win an Academy Award for Best Song. YUP. I know yall didn’t forget that when home sista Queen Latifah announced it. The song they won for was, “It’s Hard out Here for a Pimp” from the Hustle & Flow soundtrack. I’m not even going to lie. The song has a great beat and hook.
And to piggy back on that, Denzel Washington won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his roll as Detective Alonzo Harris in the movie Training Day. And on the same night, Halle Berry cried her eyes out and gave shout outs to other black actresses as she accepted her Oscar for Best Actress for the movie Monster’s Ball. You go girl.
Oh, and how can we ever forget, when history was definitely made with the electing of the first African American President, Barak Obama. It’s all crazy. This past decade has just been insane. There is no denying it.
