True Blood

Monday, June 15th, 2009 by Reel Marla

I don’t know what it is about the crazy HBO show True Blood that keeps me coming back to watch it. It’s not the best show ever HBO has had. It can look cheesy and jive at times. The southern accents are fake and there are so many stereotypical characters I’ve lost count of them.

Even with all of the negatives, I’m drawn to the characters. I crack up at them. The story and subplots are good and there’s always just the right amount of tension and suspense. I think I’ve always liked vampire movies even though I get scared. Heck, I was turned on to them way back in the 80’s when I saw The Lost Boys with Corey Haim and Corey Feldman. I wonder whatever happened to those guys. I’m going to have to look them up.

Queen of the Dancehall

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009 by Reel Marla

Wow, I felt a bit of nostalgia this evening and pulled out my book of poetry called Lyrical Essence I got published in 2004. It truly seems like a lifetime ago. I also recorded 29 of the poems soulfully delivered on an accompanying CD with pulsating and heartfelt beats. I look back at it all and laugh. I feel like it could have been better, but I’m proud of myself for successfully completing the project and having people enjoy it.

I’ll be posting some of the poems here and there. Mainly the one’s that I put on the CD. Check out the one below. This truly came straight from the heart. I believe poetry can transport you to surprising localities that you never thought could be reached. It can also be a curative mechanism, while encapsulating the intricacies of life, love, and spirituality.

Queen of the Dancehall
by Lyrical Essence aka Reel Marla

I’m queen of the Dancehall
The way I move my body has me seen as an enigma
The way I bend my knees and sway my back from side to side
I am seen as some unidentifiable force

Dancing feels ohhhhhh so good
It’s an experience that takes me to a higher level
It’s sensual, sexual, and oh so titillating

I place my lips on the beat of the drum kissing it oh so passionately
I rap my arms around the harmony
I hold on tight never to let the feeling end
I caress my hands up and down the lyrics

Oh, how I love to dance

I am queen of the Dancehall
No one arches her back the way that I do
No one twists, turns and moves the way that I do
No one rocks the way that I do

I am queen of the Dancehall
So move aside and let me do my thing
