Eagle Eye

Eagle Eye isn't lacking in full speed action, but it's lacking in originality and a good reason behind the mysterious and irritating voice.

Review

Action and more action. Of course, most of the action is racing car scenes. For just a split moment I thought that I was watching Speed Racer. I’m all for action and scenes that have me tense and gripping my seat, but too much of the same old thing is just too much. The main characters Jerry Shaw (LeBeouf, Transformers) and Rachel Holloman (Monaghan, Made of Honor) were either doing Olympic sprints or NASCAR driving.

How Jerry gets to running all over the place starts with him coming back to his tiny apartment finding all kind of items that set him up something fierce to look like a terrorist. I’m talking chemicals, guns and phony passports. He doesn’t even have time to take a breath when he receives a call from a cold mysterious woman telling him, he best high-step it out of his apartment because the FBI is on their way. Of course, he asks tons of questions and while his time is running out he’s apprehended and hulled off to the station where he is interrogated by FBI Agent Thomas Morgan (Billy Bob Thorton, Mr. Woodcock). I would suggest, if you come home and there is a boat load of incriminating evidence taking up every inch of your place, you receive a tip from someone telling you that you better run honey because the police are coming, then RUN fool...RUN!

While Jerry is dealing with his issues, the same woman is threatening Rachel. Poor Rachel’s threat is higher because her son is involved. She better do what the voice says, or her son’s life will be in serious jeopardy.

Back to Jerry, he gets to make his one phone-call, but when he picks up the phone, the same woman tells him he’d better get down, then BAM the building is hit and then she tells him to jump…and from that moment…let the game begin. Don’t worry, I didn’t spoil anything, all of this information is in the trailer.

I thought when I first saw the trailer, the movie would have lots of action in it and it seemed a bit contrived. I was right about both. Eagle is ridiculous, outlandish, ludicrous, or whatever word you use. When I was watching Eagle I just kept telling myself I’ve seen something like this before. Then it hit me. It’s a combination of a few movies –I-Robot, Die Hard, The Fugitive. Of course, these are all great movies. I must say, even with the negative aspects of this flick, I surely wasn’t bored. The movie kept my attention through the entire length of the film. I also feel that it should be best watched on the big screen. You all should know by now with me, action films are great watching them with surround sound and a huge screen.

Something I usually don’t notice in other films, but I did in this one, is the make-up on the actors. My goodness did they slap a ton of foundation and powder on Billy Bob. Even my girl Rosario Dawson (Rent, Grindhouse) had on too much however, she still is very cute. She stars as Special Agent Zoe Perez in the Air Force Office of Special Investigations. She’s doing it. She’s very believable. She’s tough, sharp, and comes off as a commanding officer who tries to get to the bottom of this case. I’m glad they put home girl in the flick.

Eagle isn’t lacking in driving action full speed ahead, but it's lacking in originality, and a good believable reason behind the mysterious voice. I know I was thinking “Oh heck noooo” when the mystery was revealed.

You’re on your own with this one peoples.
