Agonizingly good! I honestly hung onto every word being said in this film. I didn’t want to miss anything. My Sister’s Keeper truly kept my attention and interest from the beginning to end. It's such a lovely movie adaptation of the novel of the same name.
The Fitzgeralds are a family struggling with day-to-day life as they all care for the oldest daughter Kate (Sofia Vassilieva, NBC’s Medium) who suffers from acute leukemia. The youngest daughter Anna (Abigail Breslin Little Miss Sunshine) was genetically engineered and brought into this world by her parents to save her sister’s life.
Anna decides to get a popular lawyer, Campbell (Alec Baldwin, NBC’s 30 Rock), to help her sue her parents, played by Cameron Diaz (What Happens in Vegas) and Jason Patric (Downloading Nancy), for the rights to her own body. Everything she’s physically done to help save her sister has been against her will, and now she’s supposed to give a kidney and she doesn’t want to. Her mother isn’t having any parts of Anna's decision. Oh no, not at all.
Oh, real quick. Do you remember Jason Patric as Michael from the eighties vampire flick The Lost Boys? I just loved that film. I don't see Jason often in movies.
Anyhoo, the story is very good. The character setup had me just truly engaged in their lives. I cared about the characters' feelings, needs and wants. Each character tugs at your emotions. You truly understand where they're all coming from and it makes it real easy to put yourself and hammer toes in their shoes. This might come off as a bit contrived, but it works.

Abigail Breslin is just a great little actress. I’m so proud of her. She can carry a story from beginning to end. I also found it refreshing to see Cameron Diaz in such a tough role. No comedy or the ever present Cameron smile required. It proves she’s a good actress. She plays such a warrior mom. WOW!
Alec Baldwin’s character is perfect and quite necessary. He brings something genuine and special. Of course, it’s probably the writing and any good actor would make a nice fit. However, Alec is a nice touch.
The love story between Kate and Taylor (Thomas Dekker, Laid to Rest) is simply beautiful, tender and loving. What a lovely subplot in the picture about first love and the understanding of sickness that’s executed superbly by the young actors.
You know, this film really pulled me in. I was so twisted. I felt suspended like a puppet on string. Sure, I was boo hooing and what not, but it was with purpose and that’s important. Is it a movie I’ll watch again? Probably not. It’s just too sad of a story watching someone so young painfully sick. It’s too real. I know there are true people in this situation. Ugh! Keeper shows a family’s loyalty, love, and chemistry that is so honest. I felt like the Fitzgeralds were my neighbors or something. I wanted to cook some stuffed shells and leave it on their door step.
If the trailer for this film got to you the way it did me, the movie plays out just the same. I would suggest seeing a good comedy afterwards because you’ll feel melancholy.
