Review

You know…I really liked this movie. From the first minute I was into it. After 10 minutes the main character Paul Blart (Kevin James, I know Pronounce You Chuck and Larry) really took me in. The set up was smart, the characters were funny and really all gelled together. When I saw the trailer I felt that Paul Blart: Mall Cop would be kind of comical and I was right. It was real funny. It had its unrealistic moments however; I just looked right past them and let the movie do its job at entertaining me and making me laugh.

Paul Blart is a single dad trying to make ends meet with a little cheddar cheese working at the West Orange Mall as a mall cop – without a gun -- after he failed the New Jersey State Police exam. He’s always been devoted to protect the mall and “safety never takes a holiday” as he would say since it's around Christmas. One night the mall is taken over by Santa’s helpers, and Paul's dedication and police academy skills are put to the test. It’s all up to Paul to save the mall and its hostages, and two of them are very dear to him. No one knows the mall better than Paul.

This flick is obviously contrived, but who cares. It’s still cute and really had me cracking up. It’s wonderful that it’s also rated PG and kids will really like and think it’s hilarious too. Mom and Dad won’t feel like they are wasting their time either while they sit through the 90-minute film. It’s the right amount of time – not to long and the main character has heart and the comedy is silly fun.

I know this much, if I was at my local mall and several hooligans held up guns and said the mall is closed. Oh, they wouldn’t have to tell me twice. The Christmas shopping would just have to wait. Marla would be baking cookies and giving them as presents instead. Okay? Oh, and the cookies would be from Pillsbury Ready to Bake. You know I know the tricks. I'd just scoop out the mix and pop it in the oven.

Anyhoo, the bad guys acting was mmm mmm mmm atrocious, but what are you going to do? Pay your money and at least try to enjoy it. It’s a PG comedy that stars Kevin James and one of the Producers is Adam Sandler. You know with those names it’s going to be harebrained.

If you need a quick movie to take the family to see that doesn’t have any vulgarity, this is your flick. You can save some money and check out a matinee and with the rest of the money, get some Malted Milk Balls. I don't have any kids and I plopped myself down, watched this picture and had me a good time. If you are a little skeptical, wait to rent it and don't forget to respect your mall cops.
