Wowww! Now that’s what I’m talking about. ERASE my memory of the original Star Trek movie that left me totally disliking Star Trek until now. This film is very impressive, visually gorgeous and filled with intense action with a great beginning, middle and end. I just say YES! YES! YES go see this film.
Star Trek is a phenomenal story about an intelligent crew’s first voyage onboard the most technically advanced starship ever – the U.S.S. Enterprise. It’s a beauty for sure. They’re on a straight up dangerous trip to try and find a way to destroy a renegade being whose motivation to kill mankind is revenge.
Now, rivals control the fate of the universe. One being James T Kirk (Chris Pine, Smokin’ Aces), a genius wild child and the other, Spock (Zachary Quinto, NBC’s Heroes), a no emotion showing logic based thinker. They must use their differences and work together to lead their crew to safety and annihilate the evil being and its plan for destruction.

Spock was nerdy as he could be, but yet his intelligence and extremely stoic behavior captivated me. I dared not look away. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but he came off as sexy. Intelligence to me is very sexy though. Oh and Quinto is from Pittsburgh, PA. Go Pens!
James Kirk had straight up swagger. He was rough, tough, a genius, and just had a confidence about him that just brought his character to life. The cast amazingly all had chemistry. No one seemed out of place even with all their different looks and personalities.
I really liked Zoe Saldana (Vantage Point) as Uhura. She commanded that screen. You go gal! I truly believe that the beautiful Nichelle Nicholes (Star Trek series) would be very proud. I can’t believe that Nichelle was considering quitting her role as Uhura back in the day. I ask, what the smurf for? She was practically the first African American actress whose character was a non-stereotypical one in a TV series. Shoot, back in the sixties that was a great thing. Home girl is also credited with TV’s first interracial kiss. I know some folks were offended. We are talking the sixties. It had to happen some time. I’m glad it did.
Oh, I almost forgot. What was Tyler Perry doing up in the film? It certainly shocked the Madea out of me. He must be friends or something with J.J. Abrams.
As a kid, I remember seeing the first Star Trek movie and I was soooo bored. It turned me off to anything Star Trek. This 2009 film, oh my word, was FANTASTIC! I liked everything about it. The realism of the explosions, the space ships, the booming base were just so on point. I even choked up a bit at some scenes with Spock. Ahhh, I loved this movie.
Star Trek was hot – the script, cast, and special effects. The pacing of action, to comedy, to straight dialogue scenes were perfect to keep the picture moving along. If you were a fan of the television series, this reboot will leave you satisfied. Nerds and non-nerds alike will love this film that I feel is best experienced on the big screen.
