Watch the TrailerThis is an EXCELLENT war film with a unique angle. I never thought about the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit within the military. Heck, I like to just say the bomb squad. The Hurt Locker is intense and a much needed film to show us one of the most treacherous jobs ever. This is such a good movie on such a tiny budget. I was truly humbled and impressed by the content of this film.
The Hurt Locker depicts a very elite team of soldiers who have the riskiest job of disarming bombs in the middle of warfare in Iraq. Sergeant James (Jeremy Renner, Light Bulb) takes over the Victory bomb disposal team in a new way. This man shows no fear. Heck his underlings Sanborn (Anthony Mackie, Nortorious) and Eldridge (Brian Geraghty, Love Lies Bleeding) think he is reckless and are going to get them killed. Shoot, he scared me. He’s a bomb disposal expert. Yeah, like he goes home to his mom and says, “Mom, I want to disarm bombs. I’m going to be a Bomb Disposal Expert.” WHEW!!! That’s deep. I’m not the one, but God bless the ones that are. I’m a little punk.
Anyhoo, the Camp Victory squad is counting down the days until their tour is over. It counts down from 38, 33, 25, 18, 11, 8, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 days. And every day is so intense. All the team can do is try to keep themselves and everyone else safe with their skills and calm.
The cast aren’t big names and I’m glad about that. I felt like these men were truly in the army at war. There’s an authenticity about the movie, especially it being filmed in Jordan. One of the actors stated that they got shot at few times while filming. Umm, 1st of all, I’d be saying there isn’t that much authenticity in the world for me to be getting shot at. I’d be saying, “I’m a celebrity, get me out of here.” Come on now.

And that desert, it looked sooo HOT and dry out there I needed a glass of water. It made me so thirsty just watching. There is one scene where the team just looked like they were on a stake out or really it was a sniper type of stand off. It looked like they had been there for hours. Their lips were crusty and chapped and they looked just tired and dehydrated. They had a juice drink that resembled a Capris Sun pack and I was thinking “Pass me one homey because I'm just parched looking at ya'll.”
The Hurt Locker should not be slept on. I know there isn’t a lot of theaters showing this film, but if it’s showing near you somewhere, take the time to see it. It’s truly a great film with excellent acting, drama, action and suspense with very deep and moving performances. I can see this movie having a lot of buzz around it during Oscar time.
