Review

Tyler Perry does not have to worry nor bother with what us critics say.  He has a strong loyal fan base.  Even if he wrote a movie so bad it received a Razzy award, his movies will still be number 1 for opening weekend.

Simply put, I liked this movie.  It was filled with straight up Soap Opera drama.  For a minute or two, I thought Victor Newman or Drucilla Winters were about to make a cameo.  Did the movie have some ridiculous scenes that you couldn’t believe? SURE!!! But, it moved the story forward and had the audience talking to the screen.

In this saga, 8 college friends  take an annual  vacation in the mountains to sift through their marital problems like flour. Through the sifting, this retreat has opened up Pandora’s box.

I am not going to spoil anything for you in this review with the step-by-step details of every scene. Just know, that Jill Scott (singer/songwriter) was phenomenal? I had no clue this woman could act. She reached so deep in this movie I felt so bad for her.  Her character Sheila was very pure and I rooted for her. Oh, please don’t get it twisted; I did want to slap her a couple times for being so dayum dumb in many scenes. So, Tyler P. does have a knack for writing and directing scenes that will conjure audience participation.

Lovers of Penny..oops I mean Janet Jackson (Nutty Professor II, Poetic Justice, Good Times, singer/songwriter, Blanket’s aunt) did not disappoint me in her role as Patricia.  Janet was compelling, and her acting was not forced.

I found that the women had a lot more issues than the men did. I don’t know if I liked that. I think the men should have carried 50% of the fault. I am just being reel. These women, were either crazy career driven, numb to certain feelings, verbally abusive, or couldn’t express their feelings. COME ON!  This is straight up role reversal. What woman do you know that cannot or doesn’t want to express her feelings?  Everyone knows that women use 7,000 more words a day than men do.  Hmmmm.?.

This movie is fresh, and very thought provoking. The casting was top-notch.  Tyler believes that his films are not made for a certain demographic, but a certain demographic does go see his movies. So, whom is he kidding? This movie, which we all know from watching the previews, has an African American cast.  Please take note; this cinematic work is for any race. Marriage, friendships, love, money, and problems, is definitely color blind. It’s a funny, drama filled movie that is great to watch on the big screen with a talk back to the screen audience, but this is a good one to rent if you can’t stand the loudmouth people in the theaters.
